Get Involved

Getting involved in the MA State Affiliate is a tremendous way to ensure that every woman in Massachusetts has the option to choose a midwife for her birth!

Upcoming opportunities to get involved:

Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce:  People of color, members of the LGBTQI community and people with disabilities have historically been underrepresented in midwifery and ACNM membership.  It has to be a priority for our Affiliate and our profession to seek out and listen to the voices of underrepresented midwives and students.  Join us as we work to improve the experience of all midwives, increase diversity in midwifery and work to reduce health disparities.  If you are interested in joining the Taskforce, please email me a [email protected]

Membership Committee: In response to the ACNM's membership drive, our Affiliate is working hard to increase membership in MA.  If all the midwives in MA joined the ACNM, this would add over $90,000 to the ACNM national budget.  If you are interested in joining the Membership Committee, please email Esther Hausman at  [email protected]

Public Relations Committee: What could be a greater benefit to women in MA than to know more about the CNMs in their community? Do you have creative ideas to spread the word? Want to write for the ACNM Blog?  Learn more at http://ourmomentoftrust.midwife.org. To join this effort: contact Sole Diaz

Legislative Action: One role of the Massachusetts Affiliate of ACNM is to inform midwives and the public of legislative issues that affect the practice of midwifery as well as the women and children we care for. Our legislative team keeps on top of federal and state issues and legislation and notifies members of the MA Affiliate when action is needed. If you'd like to get involved contact Kathryn Kravetz Carr. To sign up to receive federal action alerts goto http://capwiz.com/acnm/mlm/signup/.

Midwives for Peace and Justice: We are a grassroots organization in the Greater Boston area. We believe that midwifery should be the standard model of care in the United States as it can help eradicate health disparities and inequities many women face. We want to promote this mission by becoming more visible in community events which promote social justice.  To join the group you just need to visit us on Facebook (Midwives for Peace & Justice) and ask to become a member or email midwivesforpeaceandjustice@gmail.com for further questions. On the Facebook page you will be kept updated about up coming events.
